We were not handed a set of instructions for our children. Each child has their own blueprint, their own learning style, their own special view...
My background-
My path through Special Education was never just a career, it was an instant calling when I saw others struggle as I had through school. I was different, I was very active, but my mind couldn't slow down enough to let me study or listen long enough to learn to read until I was ready in college. Yes, college! I don't know how I made it with barely understanding the foundations of literacy, but when I learned what was happening to me, I began to teach myself to read again. Here I am, over 25 years later...
I have walked with children who experience the world in ways others often overlook. They taught me to listen with my whole being, to see beyond behavior, and to understand the quiet language of the soul. We have overlooked the need to express emotional, physical and academic needs through art and music. I now offer a little something back the older generation that understood the importance of being creative in order to feed the needs and individuality as well as bring back the confidence in our kids through a gentle form of learning. They are not on the clock, they are not being judged, just held in patience and love.
Anyone can learn, at any age. It's how we look at things and how things are presented to us.
The Creative-
Art and color has always been my first language. Drawing, painting, and visual storytelling are how I understand the world — and how I help others understand themselves. Creativity is not a decoration. In academics, it's a way to build confidence.
The Educator-
I have served the sensitives, the dreamers, the neurodivergent thinkers; the ones who didn’t fit the mold —like me. Learning is not linear. It is emotional, energetic and relational.
