My Personal Background
I’m a mother and bilingual special education teacher with more than 25 years of experience in public and private schools. As a creative, neurodivergent person, I’ve navigated many of life’s transitions without always having the guidance I needed.
My own educational journey shaped the work I do today as I moved through school without learning to read, when the words Special Education was just being discovered and everyone was scared that it was like a prison sentence. I was different and I couldn't understand why. I made it into college somehow and it was a psychology class in college, where I discovered I had reading delays. I then had to teach myself reading skills I should have learned much earlier, because I was afraid to ask for help. I knew I could and was determined so I could teach others and they could spare years of shame and guilt for simply being different. While working K-12, in my later years I have also developed a deep spiritual life and coaching practice with adults in different areas from moving through grief, organization, growing their business ideas and empowering them through life's transitions, and spiritual coaching.
These experiences have given me a deep appreciation for the importance of feeling supported, gaining knowledge, and having someone walk alongside you. I believe that with courage, understanding, and the right support, we can move through challenges and find ways to thrive.
My Professional Background
Special Education Specialist & Life Coach
I am a highly experienced Special Education Specialist and Life Coach with over two decades of dedicated support for children and families. Throughout my career, I have focused on Birth -12th grade, working the later years with children from Early Intervention and CPSE, particularly those with developmental and reading delays, and autism spectrum disorder.
I have led and developed comprehensive home-based and center-based programs using evidence-based applied behavioral strategies, serving children across a wide range of needs. My expertise includes building and supervising multidisciplinary teams, working with special education teachers, behavior technicians, speech therapists, and social workers, to ensure each child receives individualized, data-driven support tailored to their unique strengths. Knowledge of Applied behavior analysis (ABA), including Natural Environment Teaching (NET), TEACCH, and Discrete Trial Training (DTT) . I have provided one-on-one and small-group SETSS instruction aligned with students’ IEPs and I have extensive experience training and coaching parents, empowering them with strategies to support their child’s development beyond therapy sessions.
